Featured Item (Settings Page)

I've searched the forums for information on this but there doesn't seem to be anything about it. In the 'settings' page theres an option to select a featured item. I'm wondering how this works, are featured item selected at random, by popularity or do we pay to have an item featured?

Featured items on the frontpage are selected by Codester based on quality and value.

This option for a featured item is meant to feature one of your own items on your profile and profile card.
Because of redesign of the profiles and items, this option has been disabled for the time being. It will be coming back.
